The best Prospero can do is couch a rather lackluster pardon inside a command: Samon also reveals that his true objective is to prevent the revival of the Tree of Genesis, which, according to him, is a bigger threat to the world than the Tree of Exodus.
This will be an outcome no different, in fact better, than if Prospero and his claims had not now turned up. This is of interest, since there is little overt Christianity in Shakespeare, or even in this story, which nevertheless has the occasional references, as to "Providence divine" Act 1 Scene 2: It also sweetens the pot for Alonso.
